Acne & Acne Scar Treatment in Calgary
Acne scars are among the most visible signs of skin aging, affecting nearly everyone as they grow older. They commonly appear on the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the brows, around the mouth, and along the neck and décolletage. While aging is a natural process, environmental exposure, lifestyle habits, and the gradual breakdown of collagen and elastin can accelerate the formation of lines and folds.
At Skinfluence, we understand that acne scars are more than a cosmetic concern they can affect how you feel about yourself. Our clinically backed, personalized treatments are designed to smooth, firm, and rejuvenate your skin, helping you look and feel your best at every stage of life.
What is Acne?
Acne is a skin condition that develops when pores become blocked with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria most commonly Cutibacterium acnes (formerly P. acnes). It shows up as whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, and in more severe cases, painful cysts and nodules. Acne isn’t just a teenage problem: adult acne, particularly hormonal acne along the jawline and chin, is one of the most common concerns we see at our Calgary clinic.
Acne scars are the marks left after breakouts heal. They fall into two groups: textural scars (icepick, boxcar, and rolling scars that create dents in the skin) and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, the flat red or brown spots that linger after a pimple is gone.

What Causes Acne?
There’s rarely a single cause. Hormonal fluctuations, genetics, bacteria, certain medications, skincare products that clog pores, and diet can all play a role. Calgary’s climate adds its own challenges: dry winter air and chinook-driven humidity swings can disrupt the skin barrier, prompting your skin to overproduce oil, a common trigger for breakouts.

How we treat Acne & Acne Scars at Skinfluence
Acne Blue Light Therapy
Alma’s AFT pulsed light technology (420–950 nm) targets acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation. Non-invasive and painless, typically done in weekly sessions. Our 4-week Acne Program bundles four light sessions with two acne peels/facials.
Chemical Peels
The AlumierMD BHA 20 peel uses 20% salicylic acid to exfoliate inside the pore, reduce active pimples, and fade post-acne discoloration.
Microneedling
The gold standard for textural acne scars. Controlled micro-injuries trigger collagen production that gradually fills rolling and boxcar scars. Often paired with exosomes to accelerate healing
Acne Facials & Dermaplaning
Deep-cleansing clinical facials designed to clarify skin, reduce oil production, and minimize pores.
Medical-grade skincare
We build an AlumierMD home routine around your treatments, because what you do between appointments determines how long results last.
What to expect?
Every plan starts with a free consultation. We examine your skin, identify your acne type and triggers, and map out a treatment sequence typically clearing active acne first, then addressing scars and pigmentation. Most clients see visible improvement in active breakouts within 4–6 weeks; scar remodeling with microneedling takes 3–6 sessions spaced about a month apart.
